KOH LIPE

Koh Lipe is the southern-most island in the Tarutao National Marine Park, quickly becoming renowned for its underwater world and pristine beaches.

There are 4 main beaches Pattaya, Sunlight, Sunset and Karma Beach. All beaches are connected by footpaths and it only takes about an hour to walk the entire island. There are no cars and a limited amount of motorbikes. Koh Lipe village has a school with internet access, a few small shops and some fantastic local food. As of yet, there are no ATM's so be sure and bring enough cash to sustain you.

Mountain Resort will be happy to give you cash back on your credit card. Home to the urak Lavoi also known as 'Chao Lay', they are an indigenous people originating from Koh Lanta. Their livelihood comes mostly from fishing

*Please be mindful when feeding the dogs on the island. Koh Lipe is closed for 6 months out of the year, and the dogs cannot rely on humans for food during that time, they need to know how to 'crab' instead of begging. The sad reality is that unless better precautions are in place, dogs which become a 'nuisance', ones that need humans for food, are culled during the low-season.

*If you happen to see a sick or abandoned cat, please leave them where they are. They can spread diseases and chances are that someone is already looking after the animal. Removing them to a 'better' location could only harm their healing process.

The development of tourism on Koh Lipe is a new economic resource to the island, but if precautions are not taken in the early days of expansion, over time this industry may negatively affect the island environment and Chao Lay community.

With the annual increase in tourism, plastic waste also increases on the island. The collection and recycling of this waste is difficult at the moment, but there are programs in place. Please assist us by depositing your plastic waste in the big containers around the island, or returning the plastic to the origin of purchase. Of course, the best method to keep this problem under control is to reduce the amount of plastic you use. For your convenience we have a water refill service available at the Coffee Corner in our restaurant and on the beach at Karma Bar. Mountain Resort also has separate containers for glass and cans located near the kitchen.

Please remember that Koh Lipe is a small island, fresh water supplies do seem abundant but that may not be the case in all locations. Please be mindful of wasting water and try to keep your consumption to a minimum.

Currently at Mountain Resort we offer 24-hour electricity in the bungalows, this power is supplied by generators which have to be changed twice a day. We will try to keep this inconvenience as short as possible, please note that power surges may occur at these times.

We would also like to remind you, out of respect to the Chao Lay community and Thai culture please dress appropriately when walking around the island.
